Free XML Sitemap Generator - Create Search Engine Sitemaps
Generate XML sitemaps to help search engines discover and index your pages. Add URLs with priorities, change frequencies, and last modified dates.
What is XML Sitemap Generator?
Our XML Sitemap Generator helps you create properly formatted sitemaps that tell search engines about all pages on your website. A good sitemap ensures Google, Bing, and other search engines discover and index your important pages faster, improving your SEO and search visibility.
Sitemaps are especially important for large websites, new websites, siteschanging frequently, or sites with pages not well-linked internally. While search engines can crawl your site naturally, a sitemap guides them to your most important content and indicates update frequencies, helping prioritize crawling resources.
The tool lets you add multiple URLs with priorities (0.0-1.0), change frequencies (daily, weekly, monthly), and last modification dates. It generates valid XML following the sitemaps.org protocol that all major search engines recognize. You can also split large sitemaps and create sitemap index files for sites with thousands of pages.
All sitemap generation happens in your browser. Your URLs and site structure stay private. Download the XML file and upload to your website root, then submit to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about XML Sitemap Generator
An XML sitemap is a file that lists all pages on your website, telling search engines which pages exist, how important they are (priority), how often they change (frequency), and when they were last updated (lastmod). While search engines can crawl your site naturally by following links, sitemaps act as a roadmap helping them discover pages faster and more completely. They're especially crucial for new sites, large sites (1000+ pages), sites with poor internal linking, frequently updated sites, or sites with many isolated pages.
Priority (0.0 to 1.0) indicates the relative importance of pages on YOUR site compared to each other - it doesn't affect rankings against other sites. 1.0 means highest priority (like homepage), 0.5 is medium (like category pages), 0.1 is lowest (like old blog posts). Default is 0.5. However, note that Google says they generally ignore priority values and determine importance themselves through links and content analysis. It's more useful for Bing and other search engines. Set priorities logically but don't obsess over them.
Change frequency (always, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, never) hints how often page content updates. Use "daily" for news/blogs updated daily, "weekly" for regularly updated pages, "monthly" for less frequent updates, "yearly" for static pages like About Us. However, Google officially says they ignore this field - they determine update frequency by actually crawling your pages. Bing and other engines might use it. Be honest - don't mark old content as "daily" hoping for more frequent crawls, it can backfire.
Upload sitemap.xml to your website root directory (yoursite.com/sitemap.xml). Then submit the URL to Google Search Console (Search Console → Sitemaps → Add New Sitemap) and Bing Webmaster Tools. Also reference it in your robots.txt file by adding "Sitemap: https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml". Once submitted, search engines check it regularly for updates. You don't need to resubmit unless the sitemap location changes. Monitor Search Console for errors like 404s or format issues.
Standard XML sitemaps can contain up to 50,000 URLs and must be under 50MB uncompressed (10MB compressed). For larger sites, create multiple sitemaps (sitemap1.xml, sitemap2.xml, etc.) and reference them in a sitemap index file (sitemap_index.xml). Some CMS platforms automatically split large sitemaps. For huge sites (100K+ pages), consider dynamic sitemaps generated by your CMS or using sitemap generators that create indexes automatically. Our tool supports creating sitemap indexes for large sites.
Never! All sitemap generation, validation, and XML creation happen entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your website URLs, site structure, page priorities, and all sitemap data never leave your device or get sent to any server. This makes it completely safe for generating sitemaps for development sites, staging environments, client projects before launch, or any site structure you want to keep private before going live. The tool works offline once loaded.
