Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin text from a work by Cicero (45 BC), used as placeholder text since the 1500s. It has a natural distribution of letter and word lengths so layouts look realistic. Unlike "text text text", lorem ipsum keeps client focus on design rather than content. It's been the printing and design industry standard for over 500 years.
The generator supports five types: Paragraphs (multi-sentence blocks), Sentences (individual sentences), Words (a word pool), Unordered List (<ul><li> HTML), and Ordered List (<ol><li> HTML). For paragraphs, you can control the min–max sentence range. For HTML modes, you can download the result as a .html file.
When Paragraphs mode is selected, a "Sentences / paragraph" control appears with a min and max input. Each generated paragraph will have a random sentence count within that range. The default is 4–7 sentences. Set min and max to the same value for a fixed count. This gives more natural variation compared to generators that always use a fixed sentence count.
It depends on the stage. Early mockups and prototypes benefit from lorem ipsum — stakeholders focus on layout without being distracted by draft content. For final designs and user testing, use real content. Short placeholder headings can disguise that real headlines might be much longer. Best practice: use lorem ipsum for quick mockups, then transition to real (even draft) content before finalizing.
Sort of. It comes from Cicero's "De finibus bonorum et malorum" but has been scrambled over centuries. "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" loosely translates to "pain itself, to love and pursue pain" — which doesn't make sense by design. The text was deliberately corrupted to remove meaning while keeping realistic letter distribution. It looks like Latin but is intentionally incoherent.
